Daily Devotions Wednesday August 3, 2005
Pastor Ludwig is writing the devotions this week on the Scripture text from
2 Timothy 3: 14-17. The focus is the importance and place of Holy Scripture
in our daily lives.
2 Timothy 3:14-17 (The Message paraphrase)
"Stick with what you learned and believed, sure of the integrity of your
teachers-- why, you took in the sacred Scriptures with your mother's milk!
There's nothing like the written Word of God for showing you the way to
salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Every part of Scripture is
God-breathed and useful one way or another--showing us truth, exposing our
rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God's way. Through
the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us."
It was the summer between college graduation and my first year at the
seminary. I was working on an automotive assembly line for the summer. After
several weeks on the line, one of the assemblers, knowing I was going to the
seminary, shouted at me, "Ludwig are you still a virgin?" I replied, "Yes I
am." "Shoot.you ain't even a man," came the reply accompanied by much
laughter along the line. I retorted, "Depends on whose definition you're
using!"
The Bible trains us to live in God's way not the way of our culture. As the
years have passed since 1970 I have watched our culture move farther and
farther away from what Scripture teaches as healthy and meaningful living.
When we are grounded in God's word which constantly points us to God's WORD
incarnate, Jesus Christ, then we will be shaped for the healthy and
meaningful life for which we have been created.
