Daily Devotions Thursday August 4, 2005
Pastor Ludwig is writing the devotions this week on the Scripture text from
2 Timothy 3: 14-17. The focus is the importance and place of Holy Scripture
in our daily lives.
2 Timothy 3:14-17 (The Message paraphrase)
"Stick with what you learned and believed, sure of the integrity of your
teachers-- why, you took in the sacred Scriptures with your mother's milk!
There's nothing like the written Word of God for showing you the way to
salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Every part of Scripture is
God-breathed and useful one way or another--showing us truth, exposing our
rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God's way. Through
the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us."
We live in a time and a culture where we are told that we must be able to
accomplish more and bigger tasks with less and less. We have actually come
to believe that most things depend upon our individual strength,
determination and hard work. Is it any wonder we are so tired and stretched
emotionally thin?
If our heart is in the Holy Scripture we would see on every page God's
assuring words that our worth is not based upon how much we produce but upon
how much Jesus Christ loved us, even to the point of dying for us. Salvation
is not only some future destination after death; it is the powerful present
where we receive, forgiveness, true self-worth and the strength for living
this day.
