Daily Devotions Friday August 5, 2005
Pastor Ludwig is writing the devotions this week on the Scripture text from
2 Timothy 3: 14-17. The focus is the importance and place of Holy Scripture
in our daily lives.
2 Timothy 3:14-17 (The Message paraphrase)
"Stick with what you learned and believed, sure of the integrity of your
teachers-- why, you took in the sacred Scriptures with your mother's milk!
There's nothing like the written Word of God for showing you the way to
salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Every part of Scripture is
God-breathed and useful one way or another--showing us truth, exposing our
rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God's way. Through
the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us."
How are you put together today? Does a smiling face cover up deeply rooted
anxiety or loneliness? Do you wear a cap because your hair has fallen out
due to chemo-therapy? Are you keeping as busy as possible in order to be
distracted from your worry about someone you love? We put ourselves
together in many ways in order to "get through" the day.
Holy Scripture reminds us that each day as we rise, God has promised to put
us together with His strength and creative love. We can face whatever today
brings without denial or pretense. What ever today may bring we hear the
promise of God in Isaiah 43:1-2,
"Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.
When you pass through the waters I will be with you; and through the rivers,
they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not
be burned, and the flame shall not consume you."
Take time to read the Bible and each day be put together again by the grace
of God.
