Daily Devotion Thursday August 11, 2005

This week's devotions are written by members of our Tanzanian Mission team
(plus a few supporters) which departs for Tanzania today, August 11th and
will return on August 22nd. We pray for their safety as they do God's work
in a new and exciting place! Today's devotion is written by missionary,
Karen Ludwig.

2 Timothy 3:15

>From a child you have known the Holy Scriptures which are able to make you
wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Thought

This is the text I selected when I was confirmed. It made me feel safe
knowing that I had the Bible, with the answers in it for salvation and that
Jesus was in my life. Simple formula for me. It was also at that time that
I carried around with me in my wallet the following verse from a hymn:

Let none hear you idly saying, there is nothing I can do,

While the souls of men are dieing and the Master calls for you.

Take the task he gives you gladly, Let his work your pleasure be,

Answer quickly when he calleth, Here am I, Send Me, Send Me.

I wanted to be a missionary way back then-I wanted to go to Africa way back
then. Now I am in Africa as an adult, not in a primary missionary role, but
as a "missionary in progress". You see, I am still working on that
confirmation text, still trying to have it be an active part of my life.
When I return I need to continue to look for ways to be in mission.

What a gift our faith is. What a gift teachers of that faith are. What a
gift the sharing of that faith can be. We are all called to be in mission,
to be missionaries. Our area of mission outreach is our home, our
neighborhood, our community and our world. How are we doing?
