Daily Devotion Monday December 5, 2005
The Devotions this week are written by Erin Anderson, interim director of
Young Discipleship at Zion. Her theme is Preparing for Narnia, Preparing for
Jesus.
C.S. Lewis, an academic intellectual, created a series of children's books
for everyone to enjoy; The Chronicles of Narnia. Books with joy, pain,
sacrifice, love, forgiveness and so much more.
The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe is a story of four siblings sent from
London during World War II to stay at the house of an old professor in the
country. Once there they discover a forgotten wardrobe filled with old
overcoats, but beyond the coats the children find the enchanted land of
Narnia. A secret world of magic and danger, it is ruled by the cruel White
Witch, who has cast a spell on the land making it eternally winter. Only
Aslan, the Great Lion, can break this spell by returning to the world He has
created. As the story unfolds Aslan's return and the prospect of the
prophecy of four "sons and daughters of Adam and Eve" being fulfilled, the
hope of a new Narnia springs up in all those who inhabit this mystical land.
Won't you join in the excitement of Aslan's return as we prepare for seeing
the movie at the end of the week and for the coming of Christ in a couple
more weeks? Read along and discover the parallels of life with the
fantasies of Narnia.
Ideas inspired by C.S. Lewis' The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, Thomas
Williams' Knowing Aslan, Interlinc's Narnia: Youth Worker Kit, and Motive
Entertainments' Narnia: Youth Leader's Guide.
