Daily Devotion Wednesday December 21, 2005
The devotions this week are written by Pastor Ludwig. He explores the
message of the angels who announced to the shepherds that the worlds Savior
has just been born.
Luke 2:8-14
And in that region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch
over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and
the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with fear.
And the angel said to them, "Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good
news of a great joy which will come to all the people; for to you is born
this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this
will be a sign for you: you will find a babe wrapped in swaddling cloths
and lying in a manger." And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude
of the heavenly host praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the
highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!"
Good News
Have I got news? Have I got too much news? I listen to NPR in the morning,
pod casts while I drive here and there, the Ann Arbor News over the supper
hour, and internet news on the computer before bed time. I have aural news,
video news, and newsprint news. I know more about current events than I
either need or desire to know! And doesnt it seem that the more I take in,
the less secure and more anxious I tend to become? Is it because the world
seems so often out of control or perhaps it is because I realize that I am
not in control?
Egad, in the midst of information overkill, the warrior-angels of God
announce more news! God help us, more news! But wait, this news is
different because it announces that God is in control even when we are not.
God has intervened in human history and is about to confront the powers of
evil in order to restore the lost and out of control. Jesus is the
fulfillment of ancient promise and our present hope. This is GOOD news. The
one who first flung out the stars at creation has his loving hand upon me in
my spinning world of bad news and mad news and sad news. That hand is the
pure and gentle love of a child who has come to save me. Have I got news!
