Daily Devotions Wednesday July 6, 2005

This week's e-devotions are being written by Pastor Ludwig and based upon

one of his favorite Hebrew Scripture texts, Micah 6:8.

Micah 6: 8 (RSV)

He has showed you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of
you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your
God?

Thought

I love the phrase to “do justice.” As an American I think of justice more
as an idea than a specific action. When I think of justice in action, I
think of our court system where bad people are punished good people are
vindicated. In the prophets of the Bible, justice is not about courts and
trials it is about the responsibility every person has to care for the needs
of the poor and the marginalized.

What does God require of his people? That they have a deep concern for the
least powerful in their neighborhood, city and world and that this concern
leads to action. Can you help out with the Habitat house? That is doing
justice. Will you support our Tanzania mission team through your prayers and
gifts? That is doing justice. Will you check in on the widow who lives down
from you? That is doing justice. Micah reminds us that it is not optional
for the child of God. Develop a personal plan for doing justice this week.
