Daily Devotion Monday July 18, 2005
This week's devotions are written by Kelsay Ludwig. We will follow the
story of creation as it is told in chapters 1 and 2 of Genesis.

Genesis 1:1-5
1In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, 2 the
earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep,
while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. 3 Then God
said, "Let there be light"; and there was light. 4 And God saw that the
light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. 5 God
called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was
evening and there was morning, the first day.

The First Day
God's six day work week began on the first day-in darkness and in chaos.
Sound familiar? Sounds like a typical Monday to me! Getting up in the
darkness (the dog needs to go out), and entering the kitchen, often
chaotic (the kids need breakfast). How did you begin this morning? Was
it in darkness? Was it in the darkness of words spoken in anger that
hurt you or someone you love? Was it in the darkness of a guilty
conscience, or a tired body? Or was it in the chaos of an overcommitted
week? And yet, today you have turned to scripture.and you find a God
who creates light and orders chaos with a word! "Let there be light!"
And there was. And it was good.

May God illumine your darkness and order your chaos as you being your
week!
