Daily Devotion Friday July 22, 2005

This week’s devotions are written by seminarian, Kelsay Ludwig.

Genesis 1:20-23

20 And God said, "Let the waters bring forth swarms of living creatures, and
let birds fly above the earth across the dome of the sky." 21 So God
created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, of
every kind, with which the waters swarm, and every winged bird of every
kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them, saying, "Be
fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds
multiply on the earth." 23 And there was evening and there was morning, the
fifth day.

The Fifth Day

Up until this fifth day, God has been creating spaces: sky, seas, earth.
Now he is filling them! And he fills up the spaces to overflowing: Swarms
of fish! Flocks birds! And if that isn’t enough, he tells them all to be
fruitful and multiply!! Day five is a testament to the abundance of our
God. He does not create sparingly, nor does he practice moderation when it
comes to giving. No, he lavishes the earth with creatures, just as he
lavishes his creatures with nourishment, cooling rain, and warming sun. You
too, as his creature, are promised an abundant grace which is quite in
keeping with the Creator of multitudes of creatures.

May the birds of the air, the fish of the sea, the rain, the sun, and all
you see remind you that the Creator gives abundantly to you, his creature.
