Daily Devotions Wednesday November 2, 2005

This week's devotions are offered by Pastor Ludwig. The focus this week is
upon the simple but elusive idea of "joy."

Hebrews 12:2-3

.looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfector of our faith, who for the joy
that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is
seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured from
sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or
fainthearted.

I am amazed at what we are willing to endure in order to gain a good
outcome. With the birth of each of our daughters I gave thanks to God that
the propagation of the human race was not in the hands of men but in the
hands of women who are certainly NOT the weaker sex. With each contraction,
I was humbled by the strength and character of my wife Karen. Of course,
what awaited her and me was the joy of our daughters.

Jesus endured every hardship that life can throw at a person. He was
ridiculed, used and abused, misunderstood and rejected. Ultimately he would
be abandoned and betrayed by his best friends and put to death by his
enemies. This, however was not a matter of "outrageous fortune" but a
willingness to intentionally confront all of the darkness of sin in order to
obtain the joy of winning us back into the family of God. Jesus' greatest
joy is in your wholeness and restoration. This day take heart in such joy
and strive through the dark moments toward the joy that awaits you.
