Daily Devotion Tuesday November 15, 2005

The devotions this week have been prepared by Pastor Dave Hendricks.

Your will be done, on  earth as in heaven…In fact God’s good and gracious
will comes about without our prayer, but we ask in this prayer that it may
also come about in and among us. (Luther’s Small Catechism)

 

…the whole multitude of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a
loud voice for all the deeds of power that they had seen saying, “Blessed is
the king who comes in the name of the Lord!  Peace in heaven, and glory in
the highest heaven!”

 

The other Sunday I had the honor to teach some youth about the Third
Petition dealing with the Lord’s Prayer.  I wanted to try and get across how
we might seek to know the will of God for us.  I put on the board WWJD and
next to it WHJD. I asked how we learn what the will of God is for us.  Some
excellent suggestions were given about praying and looking at the bible.  It
was then that one of the young men looked on the board and said, “We find
out by asking, “What Has Jesus Done?!”  He had looked on the board and
discovered that before we can answer, “What Would Jesus Do”, we must first
look at what he has done.

 

WHJD:

He emptied himself and became obedient to even dying on a cross for us.
(Phil. 2: 5-8)

He brought good news to the poor, proclaimed release to the captive, gave
sight to the blind, freed the oppressed, and proclaimed the Lord’s favor.
(Luke 4:18-19)

He loved God with his entire being and his neighbor (both friend and foe).
(Matt.22:36-40 and Luke 10:25-37)

He defeated death, sin and evil. (Luke 24: 5-7)

 

We often think that it is very difficult process to discover what the will
of God is for us.  If we look to Jesus our king and what he did, then we may
already know what the will of God is for us and for the world.

 

Jesus, King and Lord, you reveal your will to us.  Give us the strength to
let your will be done in and through us. So be it!
