Daily Devotions Wednesday October 5, 2005

The devotions this week are written by Pastor Ludwig who continues the
2005-2006 Zion Theme, "Who is Jesus," by exploring the "I AM" statements of
Jesus in the Gospel of John.

John 10: 7-9

So Jesus again said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of
the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers; but the sheep
did not heed them. I am the door; if any one enters by me, he will be
saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.

Doors can either keep you safe inside or they can lock you out. I have a
habit of locking myself out of cars, homes and offices. In my first months
at Zion I had to call my good wife from the parking lot of St. Joe hospital
and ask her to come and bring my second set of car keys. After my visits I
returned to the car to find that the keys were dangling in the ignition. On
more than one occasion I have had to ask our custodian Chris LeVasseur to
let me back into my office and as for home….well I think you get the
picture.

The solution of course is don’t forget to take the key with you but that is
not always so easy when you are distracted by so many responsibilities,
commitments and concerns. Jesus desires to be our door. He will never lock
us out of his love and compassion even when we are keyless (or is it
clueless?) and are troubled by many distractions. Jesus’ promise is one of
absolute welcome and complete acceptance. Today do not fear, Jesus is the
doorman.
