Daily Devotions Monday October 10, 2005

The devotions this week are written by Pastor Hendricks who will be
exploring the theme of Jesus as our Great High Priest as described in the
New Testament letter to the Hebrew Christians.

 

Hebrews 2: 14

"Since, therefore the children share flesh and blood, he himself likewise
shared the same things, so that through death he might destroy the one who
has the power of death, that is, the devil."

 

Death has power.  It takes our breath away and can leave us trembling in
fear or walking in a stupor. Death cuts into our lives.  It cuts us off from
those we love.  It ends our future.

 

Jesus Christ stands over death by going through it. This same Jesus Christ
stands with us.  He has shared life with us and offered himself up to death
for our sake.  In sharing our existence he can see life from our point of
view. He really understands what we are going through when the dark times
cover our lives.  As Atticus Finch says in To Kill a Mockingbird, "You'll
never understand a man 'til you stand in his shoes and look at the world
through his eyes."

 

Jesus Christ has stood in our shoes and has seen the world through the eyes
of our flesh and blood. He knows. He understands. In walking through death
he can now offer us something we could have never imagined.  He is the "one
who lifts up my(our) head" so I we might come to stand in his shoes and see
the world through his eyes. It is through his eyes that we see our future as
God intended it to be.
