Daily Devotions Wednesday October 12, 2005
The devotions this week are written by Pastor Hendricks who will be
exploring the theme of Jesus as our Great High Priest as described in the
New Testament letter to the Hebrew Christians.
Hebrews 7: 24-25
.he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever.
How many pastors have you known in your lifetime? How many presidents have
you experienced in your lifetime? The truth is that they come and they go
whether we like to admit it or not. We may make our happiness conditional
upon the presence of another person in our life, but we learn that happiness
founded solely upon people has a good chance of coming and going with them.
We can turn to someone who is permanent in our lives. We can turn to Jesus
Christ. He will not come and go, but reside forever in our lives. "Jesus
Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." He alone remains while
others may come and go. If we look to the one who is permanent and continues
forever, then our happiness and joy will find permanence. Happiness and joy
will rest upon the presence of Jesus Christ.
A portion of an ancient prayer calls out to God, "Be present, O merciful
God.so that we who are wearied by the work and the changes of this fleeting
world may rest upon Thy eternal changelessness; through Jesus Christ our
Lord."
