Daily Devotion Thursday September 1, 2005
This week's devotions are written by Kelsay Ludwig and are based upon
biblical and Christian references in contemporary music.
"The Hand Song" Nickel Creek
The boy only wanted to give Mother something
And all of her roses had bloomed
Looking at her as he came rushing in with them
Knowing her roses were doomed
All she could see were some thorns buried deep
And the tears that He cried as she tended his wounds
And she knew it was love
It was one she could understand
He was showing his love
And that's how he hurt his hands
He still remembers that night as a child
On his mother's knee
She held him close and she opened her Bible
And quietly started to read
And seeing a picture of Jesus he cried out,
"Momma, he's got some scars just like me."
And he knew it was love
It was one he could understand
He was showing his love
And that's how he hurt his hands
Thought
How can we understand a love like God's? How can we relate God's love to
our lives, when there is nothing that compares and no words to describe it?
And yet there are moments when the love of God in Christ shines brightly
through the love we receive from each other. The love we have for our
parents, our friends, our sisters, our uncles. No we can't describe God's
love, but we know that all the love that we receive, and all the love that
we give, comes first from a God who loves us. That is a love we can
"understand."
Holy Father, help us to show your love to others through our words and
actions today. Grant us the faith and the grace that we can't love without.
Amen.
