Daily Devotions Wednesday, April 5, 2006

The Daily Devotions this week are written by Karen Ludwig. During the season
of Lent, the theme of Zion's Wednesday services (5 & 7pm) is based upon our
congregational set of values. Those values flow from the person and name of
Jesus (Justice, Energy to witness, Spiritual maturity, Understanding the
radical nature of Grace, Service to those in need). This week we explore
Service to those in need.

Micah 6:8

He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of
you

but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

Thought

 How do we Love Kindness-?

This text isn't something you would find on a Hallmark card-it has a serious
expectation.

That expectation is one of covenantal "kindness" which can be defined as
loyalty.

God is loyal, he made a covenant with us-to protect and to care for us.

We too have responsibilities as a part of that covenant. Our loyalty is
shown in being about the activity of kindness to others-to others in need.

Doing Kindness (i.e. loving kindness) is-

Giving more than receiving

Listening to those who we normally would discount

Opening doors for the disenfranchised rather than closing them

Reaching out to the marginalized with a hand of welcome

Doing with less so others can have more-

You complete the list-

But in the process-be serious about Loving Kindness.
