Daily Devotions Monday, April 10, 2006
The Daily Devotions this week are written by Pastor Ludwig. In the Christian
faith, this is the holiest week of the year as we prepare for the Triduum
(the "Three Days" of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday) and
Easter. We focus in our devotions this Holy Week upon the words which Jesus
spoke from the cross.
Matthew 27:46
"Father forgive them, for they know not what they do."
Thought
Forgiveness becomes easier with the passage of time. As an event recedes
into distant memory, it takes less energy to let it go and to forgive the
perpetrator. But the context of these words of Jesus are completely
different. He has just suffered beating, ridicule, whipping and moment
before felt the cold steel of the nails as they pierced his body. Hanging on
the cross, with people shouting obscenities at him, he calls out to the
heavenly Father for their forgiveness.
Let there be no doubt in your heart, through Jesus your sins are forgiven.
If there is something for which you cannot forgive yourself, read and
believe these loving words of your savior. If you are struggling to forgive
someone else because of what they have done to you, listen to the words of
Jesus and let him free you to forgive.
