In the ancient world, names carried deep and holy meaning. This week Pastor
Barry will explore some of those Biblical names and their implications.

Isaac

Genesis 21:5-6 Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born
to him. And Sarah said, "God has made laughter for me; every one who hears
will laugh over me."

God promised Abraham and Sarah that they would have children and generations
that would be more than the stars of the sky. In their 80's they were yet to
have children together and Sarah laughed at God's promise. Well past the
child-bearing years a son was born to them whom they named, "Laughter" or
Isaac.

Isaac is a reminder that God always has the last "laugh." God does not
laugh at us, but at the darkness of this world. It is easy to yield to
despair and hopelessness. Isaac calls us to remember that the God of peace
and promise is faithful. God's Son, Jesus Christ is the absolute seal and
confirmation. On Easter morning, Jesus had the last laugh against death and
damnation. Today as you face your dark moments, declare with Sarah, "God has
made laughter for me!"
