Daily Devotions Tuesday August 29, 2006
This week as the academic world around us gears up for another year of
study, Dale Eckart centers our devotions on the theme of learning.
Isaiah 26:9b
"When your judgments come upon the earth, the people of the world learn
righteousness."
Every four years, during the Winter Olympics, we all get a chance to learn
(or relearn) some new things about new sports: the difference between a
triple Lutz and a triple flip in figure skating; why the players in curling
do not want to "burn" the stone; whether skiers go faster in the giant
slalom or the downhill. We become instant experts ... at least until the
closing ceremonies. This past summer as the World Cup came upon the earth,
the people of the world (and a few in the USA) talked about corner kicks,
headers, and too many red cards.
And even though the passions for soccer run deep throughout the world, our
hearts are truly searching for something more. We seek relief from
loneliness, comfort from grief, and hope for tomorrow. We seek
reconciliation with God, and to know that our sins are forgiven. His
promise is given through Jesus, in His death and resurrection. When God
came upon the earth, we can receive righteousness.
Creator and Redeemer, give us a passion for your righteousness that lasts,
and give us courage to share your Good News. Amen.
