Daily Devotion Thursday December 28, 2006
This week's devotions are written by Seminarian Kelsay Parker. We will be
journeying into a "post-Christmas" question: "What child is this?" Turning
to Jesus himself to learn more about whom this Savior is who has come into
the world.
What child is this, who, laid to rest, on Mary's lap is sleeping?
whom angels greet with anthems sweet, while shepherds watch are keeping?
John 8:12
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world. Whoever
follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life."
Jesus is the Light of the World
I love a good flashlight, especially when we are camping. I have an
irrational fear of bears, and when the time rolls around for the final
nighttime trip to the campground bathrooms, I NEED the best flashlight we
have. The little pool of light the flashlight makes in front of my feet is
the most comforting thing I can imagine as I walk in darkness.
Walking in the darkness of our lives - we NEED a good light. I light that
shines in the darkness, that the darkness will not overcome. Jesus promises
to be that light for the world. He gives his word that as we follow him, he
will give light to our path wherever it might go.
What child is this? This child is Jesus, the light of the world.
This, this is Christ the king, whom shepherds guard and angels sing;
haste, haste to bring him laud, the babe, the son of Mary.
