Daily Devotion Tuesday  February 7, 2006

The daily devotions this week are written by Pastor Ludwig. The theme this
week is "Healing."

 

Proverbs 12:18

There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the
wise brings healing.  

 

The Biblical book of Proverbs is a collection of short pithy statements of
practical wisdom for the believer to use in everyday life. In this saying we
are reminded that how we use words can either cut people or heal them. I
still remember the sarcastic words directed at me by my fifth grade teacher.
While they have long since lost any painful power over my heart, that I
still remember them is a testament to the importance of how we speak to one
another.

 

Words not only cut, they can heal deep emotional and spiritual wounds.
Research also indicates that words of love and acceptance can be the
platform for physical healing as well. That should come as no surprise to
us. When Jesus healed the sick and suffering he typically also announced the
forgiveness of all their sins. 

 

Jesus used words to heal and set free, in a world that uses words to wound
and control. How will you use words today? To express anger and frustration
or to help and heal?
