Daily Devotion Wednesday January 25, 2006
The daily devotions this week are written by Zion member Dale Eckart, who
looks at answers to the question, "What must I do?"
Micah 6:8
And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and
to walk humbly with your God.
Before Jesus was born, before the Word took on a body and lived among us,
God had struck an agreement with His people. They would be faithful, and
follow His commands, and He would be their LORD, have mercy on them and
forgive them. If only we had been able to keep our end of the agreement!
But we today live after Christmas, after the Passion, after Easter. We have
heard the good news that there is a new agreement, with amazing terms and
conditions. How are we to act in the world, and interact with each other?
If it is faith that saves us, what does that mean at work, at school, at
home?
What must we do? Live as though we take our faith seriously. God has
reached out to be reconciled with us, and we respond by reaching out to be
reconciled to others. We are not God's equals, but we are not the dirt on
the bottom of His shoes, either. We walk humbly, as children who are loved
and cared for, confident in Him.
Prayer
Abba, thank you for loving us, and for all you have done for us. Though you
are already just, help us to act justly. In response to your great mercy,
help us to love mercy. And keep us always mindful of our role and ministry
in your world. Amen.
