Daily Devotions Wednesday July 12, 2006
This week's devotions are written by Pastor Barry Ludwig. Recently I read
that Americans work more hours per week than any nation on earth. Is it any
wonder that we are so frazzled? Let's take a look this week at what the
Bible says about rest.
Exodus 23: 10-12
"For six years you shall sow your land and gather in its yield; but the
seventh year you shall let it rest and lie fallow, that the poor of your
people may eat; and what they leave the wild beasts may eat. You shall do
likewise with your vineyard, and with your olive orchard. "Six days you
shall do your work, but on the seventh day you shall rest; that your ox and
your ass may have rest, and the son of your bondmaid, and the alien, may be
refreshed.
There is a man in our neighborhood who rides his bike daily while holding a
leash connected to his tongue-to-the-ground dog who is desperately running
alongside his biking master. I am sure that the master thinks his dog loves
this desperate marathon or perhaps he believes that he is bonding with his
pet. From the look of the dog, I believe that a sabbath rest is more
appropriate for the dog’s happiness and bonding.
Rest is so important, that God declares that we should rest our plants, our
soil our animals, our employees and our immigrants. When rest is granted,
the whole world benefits. How will you let those around you rest this week?
