Daily Devotions Friday July 14, 2006

This week's devotions are written by Pastor Barry Ludwig. Recently I read
that Americans work more hours per week than any nation on earth. Is it any
wonder that we are so frazzled? Let's take a look this week at what the
Bible says about rest.

Mark 6:30 - 31

“The apostles returned to Jesus, and told him all that they had done and
taught. And he said to them, "Come away by yourselves to a lonely place,
and rest a while." For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure
even to eat.”

Are you one of those people who tries to please everybody. Are you one of
those individuals who has no learned to say no to any request of your time
and energy? Good, that means you are in a perfect position to please your
God and say yes. Jesus told his disciples to take a rest and go to a lonely
place. By lonely place, Jesus meant a place that was away from what had
become the expected routine and the constant business of life.

This is not a suggestion from Jesus! He uses the imperative or command form
of the verb! We are to find time and place away from all of our stressors
and rest our minds and bodies. Our Lord desires us to be rested so that we
can know the peace of God’s presence.
