Daily Devotions Wednesday July 26, 2006
The devotions this week are written by Karen Ludwig to reflect a Hiker's
Lord's Prayer. Anyone who ventures into the outdoors may appreciate the
intent of this reflection, the result of a recent backpacking trip in the
Appalachian Mountains.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth, as it is in heaven.
When you walk as a group, someone emerges as the leader. This person usually
is someone who wants to control the environment to minimize error and
maximize the efforts of the group. Too many leaders results in a battle of
the "wills" .
One of my daughters got the name of "trail boss" because she laid down some
basic rules-
1. We will keep moving at a good pace so that we make it to a camp site
and NOT camp in the woods without others present (too scary)
2. We will attend to personal hygiene so that we minimize the residual
odors that sweat causes and maximize our enjoyment .
We agreed to the basic rules because they made sense to us and kept order in
the camp!
Wanting God's kingdom to come is to acknowledge that as our "trail boss" his
will should be done because his knowledge is better than ours and his rules
are ones that we should transfer to our world.
So we pray for this-pray for letting his will be done, not ours, because his
rules are time tested and we are but novices on this trail through life and
need his guidance.
