Daily Devotions Friday July 28, 2006
The devotions this week are written by Karen Ludwig to reflect a Hiker's
Lord's Prayer. Anyone who ventures into the outdoors may appreciate the
intent of this reflection, the result of a recent backpacking trip in the
Appalachian Mountains.
And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
Temptation and its consequences ("evils" ) on the trail-to try to go too
fast and run out of energy; to misstep and suffer cuts and bruises; to not
re-supply with water at water sources and dehydrate; to not have proper
footwear and develop blisters. TO CAMP IN THE WOODS AWAY FROM OTHERS AND
ENCOUNTER BEARS-OH MY!!!!!!
God has given us the gift of our "common sense" -sometimes the temptation is
to ignore it because we know better. I learned that the experience of
others who have trail hiked was invaluable for making our trip doable. Had I
listened to only myself I certainly would have encountered "evils" like
those mentioned above. We employed heartily the breaking into song (If
you're happy and you know it clap your hands) method of bear control. When I
sighted the first bear along the way I sang-joined quickly by two more
voices of my daughters.
Thank you God for delivering us from evil, for making life "bearable" by
delivering us from our selves.
