Daily Devotions Tuesday, June 13, 2006

This is the week of “The Holy Trinity.” The devotions this week will
highlight the Triune nature of our amazing God. The devotions are written by
Pastor Ludwig

Genesis 1: 1-4

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was
without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the
Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters. And God said, "Let
there be light"; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good.

Light from Darkness

Genesis chapter one boldly proclaims that our God is a powerful creator who
in the midst of darkness creates light in order to fashion sense and meaning
out of chaos. This is not only an affirmation of the power of our God but
it is the source of comfort to those who are oppressed by chaos. I once
asked a dear friend who is a recovering alcoholic what was the hardest thing
about sobriety. His response was immediate, “daily accepting that I cannot
control my environment and then turning it over to God.”

We like to be in control or at least think we are in control. The first
person of the Trinity (whom Jesus called, “Father”) is in control and the
first thing that the Creator does is to make light so that chaos may give
way to purpose and direction. Today, accept that you cannot control the
thoughts and actions of others, do the best you are able at what you do but
do not strive for a perfection that is unattainable and finally…turn it over
to the one who said, “Let there be light.” See that it is good.
