This week's devotions are written by Seminarian, Kelsay Parker.
PRAYER PROMISES
This spring I served as a Chaplain intern at a nursing home and independent
Senior's apartment tower in downtown Minneapolis. One Thursday a month I
was invited into a ladies' prayer chain meeting. The women who prayed with
me were amazing. They believed that their prayers were heard, and needed!
Each time we met, we read scripture and then each woman would recite a
favorite "prayer promise." These promises remind us why we pray, and how
important it is to remain in conversation with God. Do you have a favorite
prayer promise? This week I will share some of my favorites. I encourage
you to meditate on the scripture and to pray with confidence however you
feel comfortable!
John 14: 12-17
(Jesus said), "Very truly I tell you, the one who believes in me will also
do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these,
because I am going to the Father. I will do whatever you ask in my name, so
that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If in my name you ask me for
anything, I will do it. If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And
I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you
forever. This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive,
because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides
with you, and he will be in you."
The Promise: If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it.
As you pray this day, pray in the confidence that God hears us, in Jesus'
name, and continues to provide for us all that he sees that we need.
