Daily Devotions Wednesday March 8, 2006
The Daily Devotions are this week are written by Pastor Barry Ludwig. During
the season of Lent, the theme of Zion's Wednesday services (5 & 7pm) is
based upon our congregational set of values. Those values flow from the
person and name of Jesus (Justice, Energy to witness, Spiritual maturity,
Understanding the radical nature of Grace, Service to those in need). This
week we explore Justice.
Deuteronomy 32:4
He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful
God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.
Thought
"It was two months before our wedding and Karen and I were speeding
(literally) across the state on I94 to finish up wedding plans. I could see
the State Police car cross over the median in pursuit of the errant car,
which happened to be my brother's "hot" Camero. Having pulled us over he
leaned on the door and said, "Maam, did you know you were speeding," ("of
course she knew," I thought. "Get on with it and give us the dratted
ticket!"). Karen, in all of her natural beauty smiled and softly said, "I'm
sorry officer, I wasn't paying attention." He smiled back (of course) and
said, "Well, I am going to give you a warning this time, but please be more
careful."
I should have thrown my hands up in the air and given thanks to God since we
were both tuition-poor students! Instead I remember being angry and saying,
"Where is the justice in this? If I had been behind the wheel I would be
holding a ticket right now!" Curious creatures aren't we?
The author of our Scripture text reminds us that God does not play
favorites. His justice is based upon his faithfulness to all of creation.
God loves you no less than the greatest of the saints. Think about that
today and expect God's grace and love anew even as you seek to follow God's
example by treating all people as equally special and important in the eyes
of your God.
