Daily Devotions Thursday March 9, 2006
The Daily Devotions are this week are written by Pastor Barry Ludwig. During
the season of Lent, the theme of Zion's Wednesday services (5 & 7pm) is
based upon our congregational set of values. Those values flow from the
person and name of Jesus (Justice, Energy to witness, Spiritual maturity,
Understanding the radical nature of Grace, Service to those in need). This
week we explore Justice.
Psalm 101: 1-2 9 (The Message Paraphrase)
My theme song is God's love and justice, and I'm singing it right to you,
GOD. I'm finding my way down the road of right living, but how long before
you show up? I'm doing the very best I can, and I'm doing it at home, where
it counts.
Thought
When my oldest daughter Aubrey had her college entrance interview at
Wittenberg College, she was asked by the admissions director how she got
such an unusual name. She responded, that her Father had loved the song of
that name sung by Perry Como (and Bread). We are known by the song that we
and our family sings. The song that our God calls us to sing is one of
justice and love for all people. Jesus reminds us that song also includes
our enemies and those who persecute us.
It is a beautiful song with a melody that takes some work to learn. The
melody rises up from hearts that freely forgive those who have hurt us. The
song echoes from lives that reflect concern for the poor and oppressed. The
theme is heard by the world when we define justice not by our own desires
but by the cross of Christ.
Sing well this day. You shall be known by that song.
