Daily Devotions Monday  March 20, 2006

The Daily Devotions are this week are written by Pastor Barry Ludwig. During
the season of Lent, the theme of Zion's Wednesday services (5 & 7pm) is
based upon our congregational set of values. Those values flow from the
person and name of Jesus (Justice, Energy to witness, Spiritual maturity,
Understanding the radical nature of Grace, Service to those in need). This
week we explore Spiritual Maturity.

 

Colossians 1:28

"It is he whom we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching  everyone in all
wisdom, so that we may present everyone  mature in Christ."

 

Thought

I finally broke down several weeks ago and bought a new car. Because of the
maintenance issues and my growing guilt associated with the gasoline
consumption of my old car, I took the plunge. Because these new cars have so
many buttons on the dashboard (you practically have to be a computer
specialist to run the radio - let's not even talk about the  window
wipers!), I immediately spent some major time reading the operator's manual.
While I am starting to feel like I know what I am doing, every day I learn
something new (Two days ago I discovered that I have a lumbar adjustment).

 

One of the goals of the Christian life is to grow in the knowledge and
maturity of Jesus Christ.  In mainline church culture, many stop reading
Scripture and learning about our Lord after confirmation.  I remember
hearing a preacher once exclaim, that too many adult Christians try to live
their lives on an eighth grade faith.  Make a resolution today to spend more
time in reading the Bible. In God's book there is not only the comfort and
strength you will need for today, there is also the teaching that will
assist us in "growing up" spiritually in Christ.  I promise you will
discover something new about your Lord and yourself every day!
