Daily Devotions Tuesday, May 23, 2006

After a three week break, E-devos are back! The Daily Devotions this week
are written by Pastor Ludwig. The theme for this week is "God's rascals."
God chooses everyday sinners to carry forth his promise to the world. Could
that include you and me?

2 Samuel 11:2 ff - David

It happened, late one afternoon, when David arose from his couch and was
walking upon the roof of the king's house, that he saw from the roof a
woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful. And David sent and
inquired about the woman. And one said, "Is not this Bathshe'ba, the
daughter of Eli'am, the wife of Uri'ah the Hittite?"

Thought

Very few people have lived the charmed life that was given to David. He was
a shepherd who became King of Israel. God had chosen him to build a faithful
nation. David would begin a lineage that would lead directly to the Messiah.
He had everything a person could desire..ah but there is the problem.desire.
He saw the lovely Bathsheba bathing and he caved to desire or rather to
lust. Because he did not run from unhealthy desire the result was adultery,
conspiracy and murder. Yet, God did not abandon David (nor did he spare him
the consequences of his sin). God continued to love David whom he had
chosen.

In his sermon at Zion last Sunday, Dr. Mark Allan Powell reminded us that
God loves us beyond what we deserve. This kind of love can pick us up out of
the dirt and give us renewed purpose and peace. If God can do that for a
lustful, conspiring murderer named king David (remember what the people in
Jerusalem said about Jesus on Palm Sunday? "Hosanna to the Son of David.")
he most certainly can and shall do that for us. Hail and Hosanna!
