Daily Devotions Thursday November 2, 2006
The devotions this week are written by Pastor Barry Ludwig. In this week
before All Saints Sunday Pastor Barry looks at some of the better known
quotes from famous Christians. Remember that to be a "saint" means to be set
aside by God for a special purpose. That includes the living and the dead.
That includes all who believe that Jesus is Lord. That includes you!
Saint Patrick (415-493)
"Christ beside me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ within me,
Christ beneath me, Christ above me."
According to legend, St. Patrick drove all the snakes out of Ireland (to
this day there are no snakes in Ireland). Most scientists agree that it was
probably the glaciers that actually drove the slithery things out millennia
before Patrick. It is not what Patrick drove out that is important, it is
what he brought in.Good News about a God who redeems and reconciles all
humanity.
The words of St. Patrick are an affirmation of the incarnation of Jesus
Christ, who became one with us in his birth, life and death that we might
become one with Him in his resurrection. Wherever the road takes you this
Thursday, you are not alone. Christ is fully with you.
John 1:14
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we
have beheld his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father.
