Daily Devotions Friday November 3, 2006
The devotions this week are written by Pastor Barry Ludwig. In this week
before All Saints Sunday Pastor Barry looks at some of the better known
quotes from famous Christians. Remember that to be a "saint" means to be set
aside by God for a special purpose. That includes the living and the dead.
That includes all who believe that Jesus is Lord. That includes you!
Mother Teresa (1910-1997)
"Do not think that love, in order to be genuine, has to be extraordinary.
What we need is to love without getting tired."
As a child I knew the crabbiest man in the world. He always put a negative
spin on everything and never had a good word to say about anyone. Since I
was young and had not yet learned impulse control, I said to him, "You are
not a very nice man." Absolutely untouched by the comment he said, "When my
wife died I got tired of being nice." I remember praying that night before
going to bed and asking God to help me from becoming tired like that.
It is easy to become tired of trying to love those who do not love you back.
It is exhausting to give and rarely receive. Mother Theresa knew only two
well the real danger of loving is exhaustion. God's promise in Jesus Christ
is that God will never become weary of loving you. It is in that love that
we find strength to continue to love in the most difficult of times. It is
in such love that we touch the face of God.
2 Thessalonians 3:13
Brothers and sisters, do not be weary in doing what is right
