Daily Devotions Monday October 2, 2006
The devotions this week have been written by Pastor Barry Ludwig. He ponders
the passage of time.
Ecclesiastes 3:1
To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven.
We are bound to time and we resent it. When I was younger I was always upset
at the slowness of time. I could not wait to be tall enough to get on the
real fun rides at Edgewater Park; I anguished over the time remaining before
I could get my driver's license; I grew impatient with laws that demanded I
be 21 before I could have a beer.
For many that struggle with time continues throughout their life and later
moves from impatience with the slow passage of time to fear of the speed of
time. I know people who vigorously tear up the AARP mailings that come to
their house and I have watched people spend tens of thousands of dollars on
tummy tucks, botox treatments, and all manner of manipulation of a body that
is changing with the seasons of life.
I look out upon the trees that are just beginning to change colors and I
thank God for the amazing rhythm and sense of life. From one to one
hundred, there is reason and rhyme in who we are always becoming. Whatever
season you find yourself in today, be at peace for you have purpose and a
beauty that comes from your creator's hand.
