Daily Devotions Thursday October 5, 2006

The devotions this week are written by Pastor Barry Ludwig. He ponders the
passage of time.

Psalm 92:12-15

The righteous flourish like the palm tree, and grow like a cedar in
Lebanon. They are planted in the house of the LORD, they flourish in the
courts of our God. They still bring forth fruit in old age, they are ever
full of sap and green, to show that the LORD is upright;

I have noticed that the passage of time has had a dramatic physical effects
upon me. The long hair of youth has given way to the no hair of middle age.
My hair color has evolved from blonde to brown to gray. Eye glass
prescriptions have become stronger and stronger and some of my joints are
getting a bit squeaky. Peace and happiness throughout life depends upon our
ability to accept and adjust to such physical changes.

On the other hand, the Psalmist reminds us that our emotional and spiritual
development has an inverse curve to that of our physical. The passage of
time teaches us about hope and generosity and gives us opportunities to say
and do things of lasting value in ways we could never have done when
younger. In short, there is no such thing as being past your spiritual
prime. Pray for the opportunity to use your years today to make another
person stronger.
