Daily Devotions Wednesday October 11, 2006

The devotions this week are written by Karen Ludwig. The devotions direct
your thoughts to the theme of walking: God walking with us, our walking with
God.

God walks with us but we don't see him-

Luke 24:13-31

"That very day two of them were going to a village named Emma'us, about
seven miles from Jerusalem, and talking with each other about all these
things that had happened. While they were talking and discussing together,
Jesus himself drew near and went with them. But their eyes were kept from
recognizing him..When he was at table with them, he took the bread and
blessed, and broke it, and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened and
they recognized him; and he vanished out of their sight."

Jesus post resurrection walk with these two disciples was something to tell
to the grandkids! But they were clueless during most of the time spent
walking with him. They were caught in the fear of not knowing -whether he
was alive or dead- they were immobilized, they were "sad" because all signs
in their mind led to the realization that Jesus was dead-the one whom they
hoped would redeem Israel.

(v. 21) And yet there he was, breaking bread with them, opening their eyes.

Sunday in the 9:45 am service we celebrated the 2 sacraments of Baptism and
the Lord's Supper. What a double treat. That's where we find Jesus-rejoicing
in the child who is baptized into the family of faith as we surround that
child with our assurance of love prayers and support. And he comes to us in
communion- joining us to his death and resurrection, forever casting out the
fear of death because he was victorious over it's power.

That's a power walker if ever there was one! Put his power into your walk
this week!
