Daily Devotions Tuesday October 17, 2006

The devotions this week are written by Karen Ludwig. The devotions direct
your thoughts to the theme of walking: God walking with us, our walking with
God.

Walking in the light-

1 John 1:5-7

"This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God
is light and in him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have
fellowship with him while we are walking in darkness, we lie and do not do
what is true; but if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we
have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses
us from all sin."

When I walk the dogs at night, I take a flashlight to avoid having cars hit
me (extreme), to be able to assess the path in front of me to avoid any pit
falls and to make certain the dogs don't get into any trouble such as eating
grass clods, dead moles,/snakes or other yucky things. Our text refers to
walking in situations where darkness becomes a cover for untoward behaviors.
When we walk in darkness we are allying ourselves with sinfulness, "Yucky
things". We need God's light to avoid these pitfalls. When we walk with God
we are joined to the redemptive act of Jesus' death on the cross. And our
behaviors should become Christ like.

Let us join the fellowship of those who have seen the light and who are
pulled into its beam. Let us avoid the darkness that only leads to falseness
and lies "yucky things".

Shine your light on me Lord. Push the darkness away.
