Daily Devotions Thursday October 19, 2006

The devotions this week are written by Karen Ludwig. The devotions direct
your thoughts to the theme of walking: God walking with us, our walking with
God.

Walking in Newness of life

 Romans 6:4-5

"We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, so that as Christ
was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in
newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we
shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his."

It was a long day. The two scheduled admissions that I was hoping would
arrive on time so that I could be home at a reasonable time to be able to
relax and watch the Tigers were both delayed. The family members showed up
at the same time so I was hurrying to deal with the basics of information
and form signing that needed to be accomplished. During the conversation
with the one grandson of the patient, I inquired as to the patient's
children. The grandson clarified for me that the patient has outlived her 5
children. Rather stunned by this I continued my conversation and then the
grandson shared that he was a recent heart transplant. That was one of those
moments when all my "troubles" seemed inconsequential. Here was a man who
truly was walking in the newness of life.

What a gift this assurance can be, because the resurrection WAS-we can BE!

BE walking in the newness of life, BE assured of life beyond this one, BE
united with Christ. Wow, what a new spin on 'Don't worry BE happy!'

BE walking in the newness of life this week!
