Daily Devotions Wednesday October 25, 2006
The devotions this week are written by Pastor Barry Ludwig. In this week
before reformation Sunday, Pastor Barry looks at some of the better known
quotes from the pen of Martin Luther (1483-1546).
Luther Quote
War is the greatest plague that can afflict humanity, it destroys religion,
it destroys states, it destroys families. Any plague is preferable to it.
A century before the birth of Luther, the Plague spread across Europe
killing up to one half of all the population. In Luthers day it was still
remembered and feared. Yet he wisely knew that while disease can kill the
body it is war that kills the heart and soul.
Recently an Amish community taught again the life of Jesus as they forgave
the man who killed their daughters and then took his own life. They then
began a fund for the killers widow and children. A normal response may have
included litigation and the beefing up of armed security in the community.
Instead
..the naiveté of faith and vulnerability of holy peace.
Pray for peace which passes understanding and worldly reason.
