Daily Devotions Wednesday September 13, 2006

The devotions this week have been written by Shelley Klippel, Director of
Contemporary Music Ministries at Zion.

Romans 3:10-11, 23-24

As it is written:
   "There is no one righteous, not even one;
there is no one who understands,
      no one who seeks God.
.for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified
freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

When Thomas Edison was working on the electric light bulb, he tried many
different combinations of gases and filaments to find the brightest, longest
burning bulb. Each time he tried a new combination, it took him and his
assistants about 24 hours to create a bulb to be tested. After making one
such bulb, he handed it to an assistant to take upstairs for testing. On
the way up the steps, the assistant dropped the bulb, breaking it. It took
another 24 hours to make a new one, and who do you think Edison handed that
bulb to in order to take it upstairs to be tested? Yes, the same assistant
who had dropped it the day before.

God does the same thing with us every day, forgiving us for all of the
things we do wrong throughout the day. He does this knowing full well that
we will mess up again eventually, but trusting that we will strive to please
him and do our best to serve him.

Give thanks to God today for that gift, and ask Him to help you extend that
gift to at least one person today.
