Daily Devotions Monday September 18, 2006
The devotions this week have been written by Carol Sue Brodbeck, Director of
Caring and Sharing Ministries at Zion.
This summer, I walked into the dark, black plastic-draped Piper Hall. As I
groped around that once familiar room to turn on a light, I felt lost and
grew increasingly depressed. As I calmed a bit, I started wondering if this
was what it was like when darkness enveloped the whole earth (".darkness was
over the surface of the deep." Genesis 1:2) or to walk in darkness. And then
I spotted the cross silhouetted by the illuminated exit sign. I recalled
the verse from the Bible verse from John 8:12, "I am the light of the
world." Just like that exit sign helps to guide us to safety, Christ leads
us out of darkness and into His wonderful light (1 Peter 2:9).
I am the light of the world. (John 8:12)
The light shines in darkness. (John 1:5)
In him, there is no darkness at all. (1 John 1:5)
The Lord will always lead you. (Isaiah 58:11)
God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son so that
whoever believes in him may not be lost, but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
You have been saved by God's grace. (Ephesians 2:5)
Lord, let us always remember that no matter what happens or where we may
find ourselves, you will calm us and lead us into the security of your
outstretched arms. And we pray for each person who may pass by that cross
in Piper that he/she may be touched by our glorious and gracious Christ and
follow His wonderful light out of darkness. Amen.
