Daily Devotions Tuesday September 19, 2006
The devotions this week have been written by Carol Sue Brodbeck, Director of
Caring and Sharing Ministries at Zion.
Walking into our stripped sanctuary early this summer, I could not help but
notice how much more prominent the rock-solid altar seemed to me. Was it
because I wasn't distracted by all the furnishings? The symbols on the front
of the altar-- the alpha (Λ, the first letter of the Greek alphabet) and the
omega (Ω, the last letter of the Greek alphabet) on either side of the Chi
Rho (the monogram for Christ) spoke to me. They seemed to "say," even
though this house of God was undergoing massive change, Christ was still at
the head and in control of the situation as He always has been and always
will be for future generations.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. (Hebrews 13:8)
I the Lord do not change. (Malachi 3:6)
Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you. (Hebrews 13:9 NIV)
I will be with you always. (Matthew 28:20)
I am with you always, to the very end of the age. (Matthew 28:20 NIV)
Although changes occur, battles may rage, doubts may surface, or problems
may be encountered, Lord, help us to remember that we can trust you
unequivocally to shepherd us through them. May all of us be touched in
miraculous ways during this period of renovation and renewal at Zion. We
ask this in the name of our unchanging God. Amen.
