Daily Devotions Wednesday September 20, 2006
The devotions this week have been written by Carol Sue Brodbeck, Director of
Caring and Sharing Ministries at Zion.
Working closely with Living Hope Ministries (LHM) in Haiti and their mission
directors, Mary Jane and Andris, I learned a royal lesson about God never
being early, but never being late either in answering prayers. You cannot
believe the number of times that LHM had absolutely no money to buy food for
the children and then they received a check from Zion--often for the exact
amount needed. The Haitians said, "Zion is blessed by God and God works
through the people of Zion to answer our prayers." Yes, God does answer
prayers and freely gives us, we undeserving souls, that which we need.
When a believing person prays, every good action and every perfect gift is
from God. These good gifts come down from the Creator of the sun, moon, and
stars, who does not change like their shifting shadows. (James 5:16)
God will always give what is right to his people who cry to him night and
day, and he will not be slow to answer them. (Luke 18:7)
I was hungry, and you gave me food. I was thirsty, and you gave me
something to drink. (Matthew 25:35)
Anything you did for even the least of my people here, you also did for me.
(Matthew 25:40)
Lord, help us to always remember that all we have that we neither earned nor
deserve comes from you and that we are mere caretakers of them. Help us to
remember to share everything freely to those in need wherever they may be.
And we pray for the safety and work of Living Hope Ministries in Haiti that
they may touch the lives of the Haitians in such a way that they come to
know you, gracious Lord of all. Amen.
