Daily Devotion Friday February 9, 2007
The devotions this week are prepared by Pastor Ludwig. He explores some of
the outrageous statements of Jesus.
Luke 23:33-34
When they came to the place that is called The Skull, they crucified Jesus
there with the criminals, one on his right and one on his left. Then Jesus
said, "Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing."
There are two bumper stickers that I continue to see on cars and trucks year
after year; "Do unto others before they do unto you," and "I don't get
angry, I get even." That is the way we all tend to work inside. We see it
in families, churches and nations. It is a mixture of self-defense and
grudge keeping.
I believe that most outrageous thing Jesus ever said, was while hanging on
the cross. According to Luke it was the first thing that he said; "Father,
forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." This is not only
counter-intuitive, it is counter cultural. It always has been and always
will be, because it is pro-kingdom of God. It is that outrageous side of
God who does not hold our sins against us, nor does this God desire ill
against anyone.
Who is it that you should be forgiving today. Be daring! Be pro-God! Be
outrageous.
