Daily Devotion Monday February 26, 2007

The devotions this week are prepared by Pastor Ludwig. The theme this week
is "rest."

Genesis 2:2-3

And on the seventh day God finished his work which he had done, and he
rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had done. So God
blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all
his work which he had done in creation.

Many years ago, while teaching an eighth grade confirmation class, the first
article of the Apostles' Creed (God as creator), I had them draw a mural
picturing the creation account of Genesis chapter one. I assigned three boys
to do the seventh day. When they were done, they had drawn God in a La-Z Boy
recliner in front of a television watching a Detroit Lion's game. It did
cause me to question my teaching skills.

That picture has forever remained in my heart and mind.  God needs to rest,
not because of exhaustion but out of a need to be in community with all he
has creatively done. For some, it takes a lifetime to learn it is not work
that wears us out, but the absence of rest. Find time today to rest your
heart and soul.
