The Devotions are prepared this week by Pastor Ludwig. As we begin a new
year, let's look at what God's word has to say about the idea of newness
from a faith perspective.

Psalm 40: 1-3 (RSV)

I waited patiently for the LORD; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He
drew me up from the desolate pit, out of the miry bog, and set my
feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth,
a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in
the LORD.

There is so much negativity in our world today. From the horrors of Iraq to
the complaints about the Rose bow. In the news this week there was a
statistic that one out of every four Americans believe that 2007 will bring
the end of the world!

It is true that there are threatening and painful things that happen around
us in our world and in our own lives. We have every justification for doubt,
complaint and fear. As the people of God in Jesus we also have every reason
to hope and to be positive in the midst of such times. The Psalmist is
singing about attitudes and reminds us that God is faithful to His promises.
Trust in God can and does change our attitude. God can put a new song in our
mouth today, if we will trust and believe. May your song be one of confident
hope for the possibilities of this day in Jesus Christ.
