Zion's Daily Electronic Devotions for Wednesday July 4, 2007 (Pastor

Abraham Lincoln
"I walk slowly, but I never walk backward"
He was a retired farmer who had Parkinson's disease. As the disease
progressed, he had more and more difficulty walking. His steps evolved into
a shuffle which finally led to an old wheelchair that his older cousin had
used. That wheel chair, crafted in wood, was not so much a family heirloom
as a family symbol of the absolute refusal to give up. That chair carried
generations of his family to church on Sunday. It had (with some difficulty)
carried his grandfather into the fields each day to check the progress of
the crops.
Every time I visited Lars he would say, "I'm still movin' forward." The day
would come when Lars was no longer able to get out bed and when he could no
longer speak, but his eyes continued to say, "I'm still movin' forward." He
trusted God beyond the evidence. He believed that the Christ who carried the
cross to that hill called Calvary would also carry him forward toward a
lasting and grace-filled future no matter the current circumstances.
Luke 9:62
Jesus said to him, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is
fit for the kingdom of God."
