E-Devotions for Tuesday July 31, 2007

This week, we will explore Biblically our five senses; touch, taste, smell,
hearing, and seeing. (Pastor Ludwig)

Psalm 34:8

"O taste and see that the LORD is good! Happy is the man who takes refuge in
him!"

Taste

As a child I looked forward to the end of July when my family would travel
to Calumet Michigan to visit my maternal Grandparents. I knew that for two
weeks my Grandmother would cook and bake wonderful foods that I never
received back home. The taste of pasties would be an affirmation of "where"
I was (the Copper Country) and the palate of potica, an ethnic dessert from
the old country, would continually teach me "whose" I was (the grandson of
Slovenian-Americans). How I loved my Grandmother's cooking!

The psalmist tells us to "taste" and see that the Lord is good. This
exhortation points me to the Lord's table and Holy Communion where the words
of our Lord invite me to taste and see Where I am and Whose I am; "Take and
eat, this is my body given for you," and "Take and drink, this is the new
covenant in my blood shed for you and all people." We are in the kingdom of
God and we belong to a loving Savior who invites us to "taste and see that
the Lord is good."

In God's grace, have a tasty day.
