Zion's Daily Electronic Devotions for Thursday June 28, 2007

"The great act of faith is when a man decides he is not God."

 

"Dad," my oldest daughter almost pleaded over the phone, " I just ran into a
car in the parking lot at the shopping center, could you come and talk to
the man who's car I hit?"  On my way into town I devised every plan under
heaven to assure that this would not happen again: A personal sermon-lecture
to my daughter? No she had heard too many of my sermons over the years. A
stern look? Too easily forgotten.  Take the keys away for the next 25 years?
Hopelessly unrealistic.  Finally I decided that I was dealing with personal
control issues, not with the heart of my daughter. I needed to accept the
fact that I could not prevent every problem from happening nor always hover
over a daughter fast becoming an adult. But I could entrust these things to
God so that I had the energy to love and support my family.  I pulled into
the lot, gave her a hug and told her it would be ok. The owner of the other
vehicle was kind and we wrapped up the event on a positive note. The AA
motto works. "Let go and let God."

 

Psalm 46:10

"Be still, and know that I am God. I am exalted among the nations, I am
exalted in the earth!"
